Meet the committee.
This lovely lot are your QuantumSoc committee for 2013/2014. If you see any of us around, feel free to come up and say hi.
President: Daniel Mayoh.
I’m in my SH year of doing MPhys physics. I basically live in the physics building so you will often find me avoiding work behind the café or wandering aimlessly around the concourse; please feel free to grab me for a chat. When I’m not doing QuantumSoc related stuff, I put on a different hat as the vice president on the IOP University Student Network (USN) which involves me encouraging students to network on a national level. In the brief moments when I escape the world of physics I can also be seen playing the viola and violin with several orchestras and a ceilidh band around town. If you have any suggestions for what you would like to see the society or IOP USN doing for you, drop me an email. ([email protected])

Treasurer: Matthew Johnson.
Your bean-counter this year is a 4th year Theoretician with a passion for counting beans... oh, and I'll also be keeping the QSoc accounts safe and corruption free! Originally from Aberdeenshire, Scotland, I was actually a chemist in my first year at university, but changed to Physics after realising I was terrible at anything experimental. In my spare time I'm a musician, leading MUSsoc's very own Big Band, playing Saxophone for various bands around town and attending the Jazz-Work's Jam sessions at Golf Place every Tuesday at 9pm. Get in touch if you have any questions about Physics/Music/whatever. ([email protected])

The note taker and general crazy organiser of the bunch, it’s my job to take minutes at committee meetings and email members on a regular basis, keeping you up to date with all the capers that go on within the awesomeness that is QuantumSoc.
As for me, I’m currently a 4th year student, and as well as studying physics I take evening classes in Japanese. ([email protected])

Academic Convenor: Rhea Stewart.
My job is to organise and publicise the QuantumSoc academic talks and student lecture series. These take place about every second Wednesday and will be advertised on our notice board. I encourage you to come along. I am also involved in general society activities such as; helping at events, creating society resources and spreading the word about all things quantum. This year we hope to invite external speakers to the school which is something I will be involved in realising. If you have any suggestions for talk topics or would like to take part in a student lecture series then don't hesitate to contact us. ([email protected])

Social Convenor: Danielle Harper.
I'm currently in my fourth year of a 5-year MPhys Degree and my job along with Clare is to get physicists socialising with each other. I should let you know, though, that I'll only be around for semester one - I'm off on a wee adventure for the second semester. Okay - so I'm a real part-timer! However I'm also Secretary of the International Association of Physics Students, St Andrews/Fife rep on the IOP Scotland Committee and I held the position of School President of Physics and Astronomy last year so please feel free to come and chat to me or drop me an email! Social Convenor: Clare Cowie.
Hello! I'm Clare, one of the Social Convenors; Danielle and I organise all social events, which includes trips to the pub amongst other things. I'm a theoretical physics student in my 4th year. As well as physics, I play viola, violin and guitar in orchestras and bands, and if I have any time left I play video games. If you fancy chatting about my degree programme, music or Minecraft then don’t be afraid to come say hello. When I’m not living in the physics building or the university library, you will probably find me in Aikman’s or on the Internet looking at cats. If you have any questions or suggestions about all things social, please do come and chat to me or email me! ([email protected])

Web Overlord: Lauren Cowan.
I'm a second year physicist, and I'm your friendly neighbour web overlord (actual job title), which means I'm in charge of managing the society's online presence. I'm also in charge of this website, so please direct any comments/complaints in my direction. When not studying, I can generally be found procrastinating on various social networking sites, crying over fictional characters, or dressing up as Alexander Armstrong (I'm on the PointlessSoc committee). If you have any questions about the society or just life in general, then feel free to come up and talk to me, or drop me an email. ([email protected])

2nd Year Rep: Louise McCaul.
Hello I'm Louise, in my 2nd year of studying Astrophysics, and as your year rep it's my job to keep you up to date and get as many of you involved in QuantumSoc events as possible, so come find me if you want to know what's going on in the society or if you have any ideas about what you would like to see Quantum doing. I'm also heavily involved in AstroSoc, but when I'm not doing Physicsy things I can be found Scottish Country Dancing with CelticSoc or catching a rare moment to relax! Feel free to come talk to me or email me. ([email protected])

Ordinary Member: Hayden Goodfellow.
I am a third year Astrophysicist who loves all things space. If you can't find me at the Observatory in St Andrews, it's not term time and I'll likely be down at the Kielder Observatory in Northumberland.
As an Ordinary Committee Member, I assist in organising society social events and making decisions on which way the society should run. All this with the added bonus that if something goes wrong, it doesn't have to be my fault!

Ordinary Member: Alex Qiu.
I am a fourth-year joint honours Mathematics with Theoretical Physics student. I'm an Ordinary Committee Member, meaning that I only do what Daniel can pin on me. I'm always happy to chat about physics, maths, my degree or the weather, though.
